Bird Watching Areas

.

Bird Watching and Photography Tips.

* Be patient - move slowly and quietly. Let the birds come to accept your presence.
* For birds that feed on the tidal regions find or set up a hiding place near the high tide mark and let an incoming tide push the birds to you.
* Do not attract birds with food as this teaches them to be dependant on humans and makes them easy targets for cats and dogs.
* Do not disturb birds at breeding or feeding areas.
* When moving around near nesting areas pay attention to where you put your feet. Some birds do not build nests but lay directly on the sand or rocks. Careless steps may result in crushed eggs or chicks!
* To avoid disturbing your subjects use binoculars or a telephoto lens.
* Use a tripod, lens hood and fast film for sharp telephoto lens shots.
* For good photos always focus on the subjects eyes.
* Careful use of depth of field can be used to isolate the subject from it's background

Remember that some of the birds in this guide are
already endangered.
Please do not make matters worse for them.
Take nothing but photographs and memories, leave
nothing but foot prints and ensure others can enjoy
nature at it's best as I hope you have.
